Former Muminji by-election aspirant Benson Mwaniki, who recently withdrew from the race, has been appointed Board Member of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) for a three-year term by Roads and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary Daviea Chirchir.
The appointment has drawn public attention, especially given that Mwaniki lost in the UDA primaries to Peterson Njiru Weche, who nonetheless extended warm congratulations on social media.
“I take this opportunity to warmly congratulate my brother, Ben Mwaniki, on his appointment as a Board Member of the National Transport and Safety Authority by His Excellency the President. This appointment is a true testament to resilience, courage, and unwavering commitment to service,” Weche wrote.
Mwaniki’s elevation to a key government board has sparked discussions about political appointments in Kenya, with critics noting that political resilience and loyalty sometimes outweigh electoral defeat in determining who receives high-profile positions.
Weche also expressed gratitude to the national leadership for the appointment, citing President William Ruto, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, and other senior officials for the confidence placed in Mwaniki.
