The race to succeed Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja is taking a dramatic turn, with Hon. Patrick Mbangula emerging as the frontrunner in the latest opinion poll by Mizani Africa.

According to the poll figures provided, Mbangula commands 45% support among respondents, placing him ahead of Babu Owino, who records 23%, while incumbent Governor Johnson Sakaja trails at 10%.

The findings point to a potentially significant shift in Nairobi’s political landscape as residents begin weighing the leadership options ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Mbangula’s growing profile has been anchored on a message of new leadership, opportunity creation and a better future for Nairobians. His political mission has increasingly focused on addressing the aspirations of young people, entrepreneurs, professionals and families seeking better economic opportunities and improved city services.

The latest figures, if reflective of the wider electorate, could intensify competition for Nairobi’s top county seat and force established political players to rethink their strategies ahead of 2027.

Mbangula’s supporters are interpreting the poll as evidence that Nairobians are increasingly open to a new political direction, with the focus shifting toward leadership that promises opportunities, accountability and practical solutions to the city’s challenges.

With the election still ahead, the Nairobi gubernatorial race is expected to attract more aspirants, alliances and political realignments as contenders seek to convince voters that they have what it takes to lead Kenya’s capital.

The 2027 Nairobi race is officially heating up — and Mbangula is making his presence felt.
