Wambugu: Mt Kenya Must Claim Top Two Opposition Slot Ahead of 2027

By Jeff Kizzilah

Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has called on the united opposition to guarantee that Mt Kenya is allocated either the number one or number two leadership position ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on his official Facebook page on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, Wambugu was reacting to outcomes of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Aspirants Forum hosted by President William Ruto at State House.

He argued that the meeting confirmed Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s firm hold on the number two slot within the ruling party’s structure.“One of the outcomes from today’s UDA meeting is the reality that Kindiki is in the No. 2 slot to stay,” Wambugu stated.

Wambugu further contended that this political reality places pressure on the opposition to recognize Mt Kenya’s electoral significance by offering the region one of the top two positions in any future united opposition arrangement. His comments are expected to stoke debate on regional power-sharing, political negotiations, and leadership allocation as parties prepare for the 2027 elections.
