EQUALITY BULLETIN EDITION 42: COMMISSION STEPS UP 2027 EQUALITY AND INCLUSION AGENDA
NAIROBI, KENYA — Equality Bulletin, Edition 42, is out, highlighting renewed efforts to ensure equality, inclusion and representation remain central to Kenya’s electoral and public governance processes ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The latest edition opens in Isiolo, where the Commission is now operating from its own premises at Barsalinga Towers. The opening provided an opportunity to remind the electoral commission and political parties that equality and inclusion must be integrated into every stage of the 2027 electoral process.
In Nanyuki, the Commission’s Chairperson called for existing facilities under the POLICARE programme to be fully resourced and operational before additional centres are established, stressing the importance of strengthening existing services before expanding the network.
The equality agenda also reached Sericho, where three days of registration services brought the Commission’s inclusion message directly to the ward level.
Edition 42 further turns the spotlight inward, examining compliance among peer commissions. According to the bulletin, 12 of the 14 commissions that reported disability data do not have a member with a disability, while two commissions were found not to meet the two-thirds gender principle.
The edition also features developments from Garba Tula, Kisumu, Kitui, Tokyo and Gujarat, providing a wider perspective on equality, inclusion and representation.
The bulletin underscores the Commission’s continued focus on ensuring that equality is not merely a policy commitment, but a principle reflected in institutions, electoral processes and access to public services.
