Among those positioning themselves for the contest is Hon. Patrick Musili Mbangula, MBS, a seasoned Land Economist, public administrator and former elected leader who is seeking to become the next Governor of Nairobi City County.

Mbangula’s professional journey began in the field of land economics.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Land Economics from the University of Nairobi and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Strategic Management.
He is also a registered and practicing Valuer and a member of the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK).
His training in land economics has given him professional exposure to one of Nairobi’s most important and complicated sectors — land and property.
In a city where land, housing, urban planning, property development and infrastructure remain central to the quality of life of millions of residents, Mbangula’s professional background has shaped his understanding of the challenges facing a rapidly expanding metropolis.
But his career has not been confined to professional practice.
FROM PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE TO PUBLIC SERVICE
Mbangula went on to build experience in public administration and elected leadership.
He previously served as an elected Member of the County Assembly, where he participated in grassroots representation and community development.
The experience placed him directly in contact with ordinary residents and exposed him to the realities of service delivery at the local level.
For Mbangula, public leadership is therefore not entirely new territory.
His journey has moved through professional practice, grassroots politics, institutional leadership and public-sector governance — experiences he now seeks to bring together in his bid for Nairobi’s highest county office.
LEADING CRITICAL PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS
Beyond elective politics, Mbangula has occupied senior governance positions in the public sector.
He served as Chairman of the Athi Water Works Development Agency, where he gained experience in institutional leadership and water-sector governance.
Water remains one of Nairobi’s most critical public-service challenges, touching virtually every aspect of life in the capital — from households and businesses to informal settlements and rapidly developing neighbourhoods.
Mbangula also served as Chairman of the Kenya Water Institute (KEWI).
His leadership roles in the water sector gave him exposure to strategic planning, institutional management and the complexities of public service delivery.
These experiences now form part of the foundation upon which he is building his case for City Hall.
THE 2022 TEST
Mbangula’s Nairobi political journey took another significant turn during the 2022 General Election, when he contested for the position of Deputy Governor of Nairobi County.

Four years later, he is seeking to take the next step.
This time, Mbangula is positioning himself for the top seat at City Hall.
