A section of Coast leaders has strongly criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his recent remarks concerning tourism and investment in Kenya, accusing him of damaging the country’s international image and undermining one of its key economic sectors.

Speaking at a joint engagement, Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho, Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro, and Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir defended the Coast region as a safe and welcoming destination for both local and international visitors.
The leaders argued that statements discouraging tourists and investors from visiting Kenya risk hurting thousands of families who depend on tourism, hospitality, transport, and small businesses for their livelihoods.
They reaffirmed that the Coast remains open for business and urged both domestic and foreign investors to continue investing in the region, emphasizing that the government remains committed to strengthening security, improving infrastructure, and creating a favorable business environment.
The leaders further called on politicians to exercise responsibility when making public statements, saying national interests and economic stability should take precedence over political differences.
They reiterated that tourism remains one of Kenya’s leading foreign exchange earners and pledged to continue working together to market the Coast as a world-class destination for investment and tourism.
