The poll, conducted between September 4 and 7, 2026, surveyed 1,416 registered voters across all seven constituencies in Kisumu County.

Ojienda topped the gubernatorial race with 32.4 per cent, placing him ahead of Kisumu Central MP Joshua Oron, who garnered 21.3 per cent support.

The findings signal a potentially competitive battle for the Kisumu governorship as political leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Ojienda’s lead gives him an early advantage in a race expected to attract intense political interest, particularly given Kisumu’s strategic importance in Kenya’s opposition politics.

With Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o expected to leave office after serving his constitutional term limits, attention has increasingly shifted to the question of who will take over the county’s leadership.

The poll results could further intensify political realignments within Kisumu, as potential candidates seek to consolidate support across the county’s seven constituencies.

However, with the election still months away, the findings represent a snapshot of voter preferences at the time of the survey and do not determine the eventual outcome.

The emerging contest between Ojienda and Oron could set the stage for a closely watched gubernatorial showdown, with other aspirants potentially entering the race as the 2027 elections approach.
