KWALE, Kenya — September 28, 2026 — The long-running land ownership question at the Coast has received a major boost following the issuance of 26,000 title deeds to residents of six ranches in Lunga Lunga Constituency, Kwale County.

The latest issuance marks a significant step in efforts to secure land ownership rights for residents and accelerate the National Land Titling Programme across the Coast region.

More than 94,000 title deeds are currently ready for delivery across Kwale County, as the government steps up the distribution of land ownership documents to eligible residents.

Across the Coast region, approximately 300,000 title deeds are expected to be issued this week, with the national programme targeting 500,000 additional title deeds by December 2026.

Nationwide, the National Land Titling Programme has already facilitated the issuance of one million title deeds, highlighting the scale of the ongoing drive to formalise land ownership.

The issuance of title deeds is expected to provide residents with formal proof of ownership while supporting greater security of tenure and enabling beneficiaries to make more effective use of their land.

The latest development in Kwale is therefore being viewed as a significant milestone in addressing longstanding land ownership concerns in the Coast region.
