JIRONGO’S KSh 1 BILLION ESTATE FACES KSh 3 BILLION DEBT CLAIMS AS FAMILY BATTLE MOVES TO COURT

NAIROBI, August 30, 2026 — The family of the late former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo has moved to court to begin the formal process of administering his estate, months after his death.
Court documents indicate that Jirongo left an estate estimated at approximately KSh 1 billion, against liabilities and debt claims reportedly amounting to about KSh 3 billion, setting the stage for a potentially complex succession process.
The case is expected to address the identification and administration of Jirongo’s assets and liabilities, as well as disagreements among his wives and children over the management and distribution of the estate.
Among the debts listed in the court documents are claims involving:
- Sam Nyamweya — KSh 50 million
- Francis Atwoli — KSh 50 million
- Ambrose Rachier — KSh 104 million
- George Khaniri — KSh 163 million
- Sundip — KSh 800 million
- Theon Ali — KSh 350 million
- Chege & Group — KSh 60 million
The family structure presented in the succession proceedings also reflects children from different relationships. The documents indicate:
- Ann Kanini — 3 children
- Christine Nyokabi — 4 children
- Ann Lanoi — 6 children
- Children outside marriage — 17 children
With the reported liabilities significantly exceeding the estimated value of the estate, the succession proceedings could become a major legal and financial undertaking.
