PS Susan Mang’eni Defends Hustler Fund Record, Says 420,000 Nyeri Residents Have Accessed Sh1.88 Billion

Principal Secretary for MSMEs Susan Mang’eni has responded to claims surrounding the government’s Financial Inclusion Fund, popularly known as the Hustler Fund, highlighting its reach and uptake in Nyeri County.

Mang’eni said that, to date, approximately 420,000 Kenyans in Nyeri County have accessed the Hustler Fund, with cumulative borrowing amounting to KSh1.88 billion.

The PS said the figures demonstrate the extent to which the fund has reached residents and provided access to affordable credit, particularly for small businesses and individuals seeking financial support.

She made the remarks while responding to claims by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua regarding the performance and impact of the Hustler Fund.

“Using Nyeri County as an example, 420,000 Kenyans have accessed the Hustler Fund, borrowing cumulatively KSh1.88 billion,” Mang’eni said.

According to the PS, the number of beneficiaries represents more than half of Nyeri County’s population, underscoring what she described as the fund’s significant reach among residents.

The government has continued to position the Hustler Fund as a key financial inclusion programme aimed at expanding access to credit for Kenyans, particularly micro, small and medium enterprises.
