Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital Board Member and youth leader Gaucho has called on young Kenyans to embrace regular HIV testing and responsible sexual behavior after the Ministry of Health released survey findings showing that young people have the highest prevalence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV.
Demonstrating his commitment to the message, Dr. Gaucho visited Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital and publicly underwent an HIV test, saying leadership is about setting an example.
“I believe leadership begins by leading by example. I encourage every young person to know their HIV status and make testing a routine at least once every three months. Knowing your status is a vital step in protecting yourself and the people you care about,” he said.
Dr. Gaucho reminded young people that while love is beautiful, safety should always come first. He urged them to consistently use protection, make informed decisions, and avoid risky sexual behavior that could have lifelong consequences.
He further emphasized that good health is the foundation of a successful future, encouraging youths to prioritize regular medical check-ups, HIV testing, and healthy lifestyles.
Through the campaign, Dr. Gaucho hopes to inspire a new generation that is informed, responsible, and committed to ending the spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.
