By Jeff Kizzilah Digital Editor The Nairobi County Government has unveiled a proposal to establish borough administrations aimed at decentralizing county services, improving service delivery, and creating more employment opportunities for young people across the city's estates.
Speaking on the proposal, CEO Ms. Joyce Kyengo said the borough system is designed to address the long-standing challenges residents face when seeking county services, particularly the need to travel to the Central Business District for routine services.
According to Ms. Kyengo, the new policy will enable residents to access essential county services within their own estates, making government services more efficient, accessible, and responsive to the needs of Nairobi’s growing population.
“The public has faced challenges accessing county services for a long time. Through the proposed borough administrations, residents will be able to receive services closer to where they live instead of traveling to the city centre. This will not only improve service delivery but also create more opportunities for young people,” she said.
If implemented, the borough administration model is expected to enhance grassroots governance, reduce congestion at county headquarters, improve efficiency, and bring government services closer to Nairobi residents.
