A fresh debate over the future leadership of ODM has emerged after Senator Edwin Sifuna declared that Kisii Governor Simba Arati would have been the most suitable person to succeed Raila Odinga as the party leader.

Speaking during an interview, Sifuna questioned the narrative that ODM leader Raila Odinga had no succession plan, arguing that capable leaders already exist within the party and that Simba Arati stood out as the ideal choice to take over the mantle.
His remarks are expected to reignite discussions within ODM over leadership transition and succession, as the party continues to shape its political future ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The statement has drawn attention from political observers, with many viewing it as a significant contribution to the ongoing conversation about the next generation of leadership within Kenya’s oldest opposition party.
As debate intensifies, it remains to be seen whether Sifuna’s endorsement will influence the succession discourse within ODM or trigger fresh political realignments.
