Former Chief Justice David Maraga has launched a sharp critique of President William Ruto’s administration, arguing that the country has experienced significant decline under the current government.
Speaking during a public engagement, Maraga claimed that it had taken President Ruto less than five years to “demolish” the country, citing concerns over governance, accountability, the economy, and public confidence in state institutions.
Maraga expressed confidence in his ability to steer the nation in a different direction, stating that he would require only one presidential term to restore order and strengthen institutions.
“It has taken Ruto less than five years to demolish this country. I need five years to call this country into order,” Maraga declared.
His remarks are expected to intensify political debate ahead of the 2027 General Election, with supporters viewing him as a reform-minded leader while critics dismissing the comments as political rhetoric.
The statement adds to growing discussions about the country’s future leadership and the direction Kenya should take in addressing economic challenges, governance concerns, and the aspirations of its citizens.
