Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has stirred political debate after declaring that if ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna does not contest the presidency, he would support him for the Deputy President position alongside former Chief Justice David Maraga.
Amisi stated that he would only support a political arrangement that places Sifuna in the country’s second-highest office should Maraga emerge as the presidential candidate. According to the outspoken legislator, Sifuna possesses the leadership qualities, courage, and political experience needed to complement a Maraga presidency.
The declaration comes amid growing discussions within opposition circles over possible alliances and presidential tickets ahead of the 2027 General Election. Amisi’s remarks are expected to fuel further speculation about the shape of the opposition coalition and the leaders who could be entrusted with carrying its agenda.
Political analysts say the proposal reflects the increasing influence of younger leaders within the opposition and highlights the ongoing debate over succession politics as the race to State House gradually takes shape.
Amisi’s endorsement is likely to spark reactions from both supporters and critics as political realignments continue to unfold across the country.
