FIFA Rejects Attempted Suspension of FKF President Hussein Mohamed, Declares Move Unconstitutional
The world football governing body, FIFA, has firmly rejected the purported suspension of Football Kenya Federation (Football Kenya Federation) President Hussein Mohamed, terming the move by a section of National Executive Committee (NEC) members as unconstitutional, irregular, and in direct violation of FIFA statutes governing member associations.
In a strongly worded communication, FIFA emphasized that any attempts to alter the leadership of FKF outside established constitutional and electoral frameworks will not be recognized, warning that such actions could attract serious disciplinary consequences, including possible sanctions against individuals involved.
FIFA further reiterated that member federations are required to operate independently without undue interference or internal processes that contravene their approved statutes. The global football body cautioned that the recent developments within FKF risk destabilizing football governance in the country and undermining ongoing reforms in the sport.
The governing body has now directed all FKF organs to adhere strictly to the federation’s constitution and cease any parallel or unauthorized leadership changes. It also warned that rebel NEC members pushing the suspension could face individual sanctions, including suspension from all football-related activities.
The decision is seen as a major boost for FKF President Hussein Mohamed, whose leadership had come under internal pressure from sections of the NEC accused of attempting to trigger an unlawful takeover.
FIFA is expected to continue monitoring the situation closely as it urges calm, dialogue, and strict adherence to governance structures to safeguard the integrity of Kenyan football.
