The Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMESTEA) has been recognized as the Best Institution at the 8th National Diversity and Inclusion Awards & Recognition (DIAR Awards), in acknowledgment of its outstanding contribution to strengthening education through innovative teacher training.
The prestigious National Diversity and Inclusion Awards & Recognition (DIAR Awards) celebrates institutions and leaders championing inclusivity, diversity, and impactful service across sectors. CEMESTEA stood out as the only institution honored in its category for its consistent efforts in advancing quality education, particularly in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
Speaking during the awards ceremony, CEO Jacinter Akatsa highlighted the urgent need to address disparities in teacher training across counties. She noted that several regions still face a shortage of adequately trained educators, which continues to hinder the effective implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
“We have counties that still lack enough trained teachers. Through our programs and with the support of our board, we are working to bridge this gap and ensure that all learners benefit from quality education under the CBC framework,” she said.
CEMESTEA has played a critical role in equipping teachers with modern skills and innovative teaching methodologies, enabling them to deliver more effective and engaging lessons. The institution’s initiatives have significantly contributed to improving learning outcomes and enhancing the overall quality of education in Kenya.
At the core of its mission, CEMESTEA remains committed to nurturing young minds by expanding access to STEM opportunities. Through its programs, the institution continues to empower learners to unlock their full potential and prepare for a rapidly evolving global landscape.
This recognition underscores CEMESTEA’s dedication to excellence and its pivotal role in shaping the future of education through inclusivity, innovation, and capacity building across the country.
