Renowned cleric Bishop David Munyiri Thagana has called on political leaders across the country to exercise restraint in their rhetoric and embrace peaceful, issue-based campaigns ahead of the upcoming General Election.

Speaking during the 8th Annual National Diversity and Inclusion Awards & Recognition (DIAR Awards), Bishop Thagana cautioned against the use of retrogressive language, particularly statements that promote division and tribalism.

He emphasized that such sentiments threaten national unity and undermine the democratic process.

The Bishop urged leaders to prioritize peace, cohesion, and respect among communities, noting that Kenya’s strength lies in its diversity.

He reiterated the need for politicians to act as role models by fostering inclusive dialogue and avoiding inflammatory remarks that could incite tension among citizens.

During the ceremony, Bishop Thagana was also recognized for his outstanding and consistent advocacy for good governance, inclusivity, and ethical leadership within the faith sector. His efforts have significantly contributed to promoting unity and social harmony across different communities.

The DIAR Awards, held annually, celebrate individuals and institutions from both the public and private sectors who demonstrate exceptional commitment to diversity, inclusion, and constitutional values in leadership.

As the country approaches a critical electoral period, Bishop Thagana’s message serves as a timely reminder of the responsibility leaders bear in safeguarding peace and national cohesion.
