Former President Uhuru Kenyatta was on Saturday pictured engaging with Nyandarua Senator John Methu and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna during the funeral service of Mwalimu Jackson Karua in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County.
The appearance brought together three prominent political figures at a time when Kenya’s political landscape is increasingly focused on the realignment of opposition forces ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Mwalimu Jackson Karua, the father of former Justice Minister and People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua, was being laid to rest following his death at the age of 98.
The presence of Uhuru, Methu and Sifuna at the same event has nevertheless attracted political attention, given the wider discussions surrounding possible cooperation among opposition leaders.
Recent political developments have seen Sifuna emerge as a prominent figure within the Linda Mwananchi movement, while Methu, a key figure in Rigathi Gachagua’s Democratic Congress Party (DCP), has maintained that his party should engage other political forces from a position of strength.
Uhuru has also remained a significant figure in discussions around the formation and direction of Kenya’s opposition landscape, with various political leaders seeking to establish possible areas of cooperation ahead of 2027.
While the interaction between the three leaders occurred during a funeral gathering, it comes against the backdrop of intense political negotiations and realignments across the country.
The encounter is therefore likely to generate discussion over the evolving relationships among leaders from different political formations, although there was no immediate confirmation that the interaction represented a formal political meeting or new alliance.
LiveNation254 Media will continue to follow developments surrounding Kenya’s evolving political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
