TUK JOINS UNIVERSITY STRIKE AS LECTURES GRIND TO A HALT

The Technical University of Kenya (TUK) has joined public universities across the country in the nationwide strike by university lecturers and other staff, which began on Friday, October 2, 2026.

The industrial action follows the breakdown of negotiations over the 2025–2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), after university staff unions rejected the latest counter-offer presented by the Inter-Public Universities Councils Consultative Forum (IPUCCF).

The strike is expected to disrupt lectures, examinations and other academic activities at TUK and other public universities as staff push for the implementation of agreed salary and employment terms.

At TUK, the industrial action comes as the university continues with some administrative processes. Recent official notices have, for instance, extended the deadline for students to complete nominal-roll registration to October 4.

The nationwide strike places thousands of university students and staff in uncertainty as negotiations between the unions and university employers remain unresolved.
