Nigerian billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote has set a 40-month timeline for the completion of the proposed Sh2 trillion East African Refinery in Lamu, challenging his team to replicate the success of his Lekki refinery in Nigeria.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony in Lamu, Dangote said the ambitious project would draw on lessons from the development and operation of the Lekki refinery, as he outlined his expectations for the Kenyan facility.

Dangote also delivered a firm message to those who may seek to disrupt the project through legal or other actions, saying his company is not intimidated by the prospect of litigation.

He said the company is prepared to defend the project and confront attempts to create unnecessary obstacles, warning that those who deliberately cause disruptions should be prepared for a strong response.

The remarks come as the Lamu refinery project takes shape as a major proposed investment in Kenya’s energy and industrial sector, with expectations that it could have wider implications for the country’s petroleum supply, trade and economic development.

Dangote maintained that his focus remains on delivering the project and ensuring that the refinery achieves the ambitious targets set for its completion.
