BLOW TO SIFUNA & KALONZO:AS MALALA RULES OUT DCP JOINING UKOMBOZI ALLIANCE
NAIROBI, Kenya — September 24, 2026 — Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala has ruled out the party directly joining the newly rebranded Ukombozi Alliance, signalling another twist in opposition coalition negotiations ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Malala said DCP would instead pursue a separate working arrangement with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and the Linda Mwananchi movement before engaging the wider Ukombozi Alliance in negotiations for a broader coalition.
Malala further argued that political alliances should be built around clear agendas and a plan for Kenya, rather than slogans focused solely on removing an incumbent.
“One term and Ruto Must Go is not an agenda.”
According to Malala, DCP wants any future coalition to present Kenyans with a substantive programme outlining what it intends to deliver if elected.
His remarks come amid growing political manoeuvring between factions associated with Kalonzo Musyoka and Edwin Sifuna, including a dispute over the Ukombozi political identity.
Malala’s position means DCP will, for now, remain outside the formal Ukombozi structure while seeking separate negotiations with Sifuna’s camp and other opposition formations.
The latest development adds another layer to the ongoing efforts to consolidate Kenya’s opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
