Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has revealed that the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga had backed plans for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to work with President William Ruto and his United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking in Homa Bay during President Ruto’s development tour of Nyanza, Mbadi said Raila had instructed him to support Ruto’s development agenda after ODM joined the broad-based government.
Mbadi said Raila’s position was clear and that discussions had already been held on cooperation between ODM and UDA going into 2027.
According to Mbadi, Raila wanted the Ruto administration to deliver on key programmes, including housing and healthcare, while also addressing Kenya’s debt situation.
“We had planned that in 2027; we were going together as a team, UDA and ODM,” Mbadi said, according to reports from his Homa Bay remarks.
Mbadi further said the political cooperation was intended to continue beyond the 2027 election, declaring that the two sides would continue working together.
The remarks provide Mbadi’s account of Raila’s position and the discussions surrounding the ODM-UDA partnership. They do not, by themselves, establish the final political arrangements for the 2027 election.
