Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala has raised questions over the financial position of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), alleging a significant decline in the party’s funds following the death of its former leader, Raila Odinga.

Speaking on the issue, Malala claimed that ODM had approximately KSh2.7 billion in its account around the time of Raila Odinga’s death, but that a subsequent review allegedly showed a balance of only KSh78 million.

“Raila wakati alikufa, ODM ilikuwa na 2.7 billion Kenya shillings kwa account. Wakati wameangalia last month, wamepata imebaki na 78 million,” Malala said.

Malala questioned how the alleged reduction occurred and linked his criticism to ODM’s current political engagement with the broad-based arrangement.

He further alleged that the development raises questions about how party resources are being managed, saying: “Inamaanisha kwamba hawa broad-based guys kazi yao ni kufyonza pesa.”

The claims have the potential to trigger renewed debate over political-party finances, accountability and the management of party resources.

ODM has not been cited here as having confirmed the figures or Malala’s allegations. The reported account balances should therefore be treated as claims attributed to Malala pending documentary verification or an official response from ODM.

Malala has previously made public interventions on ODM’s political strategy and the broader opposition realignment ahead of the 2027 General Election.
