KALONZO: KENYA IS HEADING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION — OPPOSITION VOWS TO CHANGE COURSE

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has accused the government of taking Kenya in the wrong direction, declaring that Kenyans have a collective responsibility to change course and restore constitutionalism, the rule of law and good governance.
Speaking after chairing the Joint Azimio Council and National Executive Committee meeting, Kalonzo said the opposition was focused on building a broader, stronger and united political movement capable of providing an alternative direction for the country.
“We have a responsibility to change course,” Kalonzo said, insisting that the opposition’s commitment to constitutionalism and good governance extends beyond Kenya’s borders.
Kalonzo also condemned what he described as the harassment and intimidation of Burundian nationals in Kenya, arguing that citizens of Burundi, as members of the East African Community, deserve dignity and respect.
“Kenya must remain a good neighbour and honour the spirit of East African integration,” he said.
The opposition leader further raised concerns over what he claimed were plans by the Kenya Kwanza administration to deploy goons to disrupt the Linda Mwananchi gathering scheduled for Sunday.
Kalonzo condemned any attempt to interfere with peaceful political mobilisation, stressing that the Constitution guarantees Kenyans the right to assemble, associate and express themselves peacefully.
He maintained that the defence of constitutional rights must apply to everyone within Kenya’s borders, regardless of nationality.
“Restoring Kenya to constitutionalism means restoring dignity to everyone within her borders,” Kalonzo said.
The remarks are likely to intensify the political contest between the opposition and the Kenya Kwanza administration as political activity ahead of the 2027 General Election continues to gather momentum.
