MUTUA SOUNDS ALARM ON KANGUNDO NEGLECT: “DEVELOPMENT MUST NOT BE LEFT TO DECAY”

KANGUNDO, KENYA — Former Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has raised concern over what he described as the worrying deterioration of development projects and essential services in Kangundo, following a tour of the area.

Mutua said the situation was troubling, particularly after residents shared their struggles with access to water and other basic services.

He expressed deep dismay at the state of projects that were once serving local communities, warning that development cannot end with the launch of a project.

“Development must be maintained, services must be sustained, and the dignity of our people must always come first,” Mutua said.

The former CS stressed the need for responsible management and maintenance of public projects to ensure communities continue benefiting from government investments.

Residents used the engagement to highlight challenges affecting their daily lives, with access to reliable water emerging as one of the key concerns.

Mutua said the concerns raised during the tour should serve as a wake-up call for leaders and authorities to prioritise the maintenance of existing infrastructure while addressing gaps in essential services.

The visit has renewed debate over the state of development projects in Kangundo and the need for sustained investment to improve the quality of life for residents.
