WANDAYI FLAGS OFF POWER PROJECT IN NYATIKE, VOWS TO EXPAND ELECTRICITY ACCESS

Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has officially launched the REREC Lwala Rabuor Village Last Mile Connectivity Programme (LMCP) in North Kadem Ward, Nyatike Constituency, Migori County, in a major push to expand access to reliable and affordable electricity.
Wandayi, accompanied by Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko and Area MP Tom Odege, flagged off project materials and broke ground to mark the commencement of the electricity connectivity project.
The CS said the project will play a critical role in improving the livelihoods of residents by connecting more households, schools and businesses to reliable electricity.
“Once completed, the project will expand access to reliable and affordable electricity, enabling households, schools and businesses to improve productivity and participate more fully in the local economy,” Wandayi said.
He added that the initiative supports President William Ruto’s BETA agenda, particularly its focus on inclusive growth, equitable development and shared prosperity.
Electricity and environmental conservation
Wandayi also launched a community tree-planting drive at Lwala Rabuor Primary School, where he donated tree seedlings as part of efforts to support the President’s national tree-planting campaign.
He emphasized that expanding electricity infrastructure must go hand in hand with environmental conservation to create resilient communities and a sustainable economy.
“Expanding electricity access alongside environmental conservation is essential to building resilient communities and a sustainable economy,” he said.
The Lwala Rabuor LMCP project is expected to strengthen electricity access in the area while creating opportunities for improved education, business growth, household productivity and local economic development.
