Ruto Accuses Uhuru of Leading Opposition Plot Against His 2027 Re-election

President William Ruto has opened up on his strained relationship with former President Uhuru Kenyatta, accusing his predecessor of choosing active opposition politics instead of embracing the role of a statesman after leaving office.

In an exclusive interview with the Sunday Nation, Ruto alleged that Uhuru is part of an opposition strategy aimed at frustrating his bid for re-election in the 2027 General Election.

The President said the political differences between the two former allies have persisted despite several attempts to repair their relationship.

Ruto has previously made public overtures towards reconciliation with Uhuru, but those efforts have yet to produce a political rapprochement between the two leaders.

The renewed accusations could further intensify political tensions ahead of the 2027 elections, as alliances and succession battles increasingly take centre stage.

Ruto’s remarks also revive questions about the dramatic political fallout between the two leaders, who once worked closely together before their relationship deteriorated following the 2018 political realignment.
