ZiiDi Trader Opens Stock Market Access to All Passport Holders
By News Brief
ZiiDi Trader, the M-PESA-based stock trading platform that enables Kenyans to buy and sell Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE)-listed shares directly from their mobile phones, has expanded its account-opening eligibility to accommodate a wider range of investors.
The platform, which previously required users to have a valid Kenyan National ID linked to an existing M-PESA profile, will now accept additional government-issued identification documents.
Eligible identification documents include:
- Kenyan Passport — for Kenyan citizens holding valid passports.
- Military ID — for members of the Kenya Defence Forces.
- Kenyan National ID — the original standard identification requirement.
- Foreign Passport — opening access to non-Kenyans and foreign nationals resident in or transacting through Kenya.
The expansion is expected to broaden participation in Kenya’s capital markets by allowing more people to open ZiiDi Trader accounts without relying exclusively on a national identity card.
The development also provides greater convenience for investors who can now access NSE-listed shares through their mobile phones without the need to physically visit a stockbroker or go through traditional CDS account-opening paperwork.
According to the platform, the expanded identification options are designed to make investing more accessible while providing a simpler digital pathway for both Kenyan and foreign investors.
With more identification options now accepted, ZiiDi Trader is positioning its mobile-based platform as a more inclusive gateway to Kenya’s stock market.
