Sakaja Approves Phase I of Mass Rapid Transit System in Bold Move to End Traffic Gridlock

Nairobi County has approved the implementation of Phase I of the Nairobi Metropolitan Mass Rapid Transit System (NMRTS), marking a major milestone in the city’s efforts to revolutionize urban transport and accelerate economic growth.
The approval was made during the 90th County Executive Committee Cabinet Meeting, where county leaders endorsed the ambitious metropolitan infrastructure project aimed at reshaping how residents move across the capital.
The NMRTS is expected to modernize Nairobi’s public transport network by providing faster, safer, and more reliable mobility solutions. The project will also help ease chronic traffic congestion, reduce travel times, lower carbon emissions, and promote a cleaner and more sustainable urban environment.
