Ruto Unveils Nairobi Metropolitan Police Plan to Strengthen Community Security and Public Trust
President William Ruto has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to improving security in the Nairobi Metropolitan Area following a high-level meeting to review progress on the establishment of the Nairobi Metropolitan Police.

The initiative aims to transform policing by placing communities at the centre of security through a collaborative framework that brings together residents, community leaders, the National Police Service, the Nairobi County Government and other stakeholders. The approach will focus on identifying local security priorities, enhancing accountability, strengthening oversight and developing practical solutions through public participation and consultation.
President Ruto announced that the rollout of the Nairobi Metropolitan Policing Framework will begin in the coming days, marking a significant step towards a more coordinated, transparent and community-led policing system across the metropolitan region.
The Head of State said the new framework is expected to deepen trust between law enforcement agencies and the public while creating safer neighbourhoods through stronger partnerships between communities and security agencies.
The President made the remarks after meeting officials from the Ministry of Interior led by Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, the National Police Service leadership headed by Inspector-General Douglas Kanja, and the Nairobi County Government led by Governor Johnson Sakaja.
The Government expressed confidence that the initiative will enhance public safety, improve coordination among security stakeholders and build a modern policing model that responds effectively to the needs of Nairobi residents.
