Nairobi Grassroots Women Call for an End to Police Brutality and Justice for Youth Killed During Protests
Grassroots women from across Nairobi, in collaboration with Tisa, have made an emotional appeal to the Government to end violence against young people during public demonstrations and ensure accountability for all reported cases of deaths and injuries.
Speaking during a public forum, the women expressed deep concern over the loss of young lives during protests, saying many families continue to mourn children who died while exercising what they described as their constitutional rights to express their views and demand better governance.
The women also condemned the alleged recruitment and use of youths for political violence, urging leaders from all sides to stop exploiting young people for partisan interests.
“We are tired of burying our children. They deserve protection, opportunities, and justice—not violence,” the women said.
Supported by Tisa, the group called for independent investigations into all reported cases of deaths and injuries linked to protests, prosecution of those found responsible, and compensation for affected families where appropriate.
They further urged the Government to uphold constitutional rights, including the freedoms of peaceful assembly, association, and expression, while calling on protesters to remain peaceful and avoid destruction of property.
The women concluded by appealing for dialogue between the Government, civil society, and the youth to address the concerns driving demonstrations and to prevent further loss of life.
