Hon. Millicent Omanga today returned to Ainsworth Primary School, accompanied by her children, Wayne and Maya, to launch the Free Omanga Care Sanitary Towels Initiative—a program aimed at ensuring that no girl misses school because she cannot afford menstrual hygiene products.

The launch carried special significance as Ainsworth Primary School is where Hon. Omanga began her educational journey in the 1990s. Returning to the school marked both a personal milestone and a renewed commitment to giving back to the community that helped shape her future.

Speaking during the event, Hon. Omanga emphasized that menstrual dignity is a fundamental right and that every girl deserves the opportunity to pursue her education with confidence, free from the barriers caused by period poverty.

The initiative will be rolled out across primary schools in all 17 constituencies of Nairobi County, providing thousands of schoolgirls with free sanitary towels to help them remain in class, protect their health, and achieve their academic goals.

Beyond the distribution of sanitary towels, the program seeks to restore hope, preserve dignity, and invest in the future of young girls by creating an environment where they can thrive without interruption to their education.

Hon. Omanga also reaffirmed her commitment to championing policies and partnerships that strengthen schools, support children, and empower the next generation to realize their full potential.

“We believe leadership is measured by service. When we empower a girl to stay in school, we empower a family, strengthen a community, and build a stronger nation. Every child, regardless of their background, deserves an equal opportunity to succeed,” she said.

The Free Omanga Care Sanitary Towels Initiative reflects a broader vision of inclusive leadership focused on improving education, promoting dignity, and creating lasting opportunities for Nairobi’s children.
