It Was Sold to the Lowest Bidder

Former Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has called for the annulment of the reported Safaricom stake sale transaction, alleging that the shares were sold to the lowest bidder in a move he says raises serious concerns about transparency, accountability, and the protection of Kenya’s strategic national assets.

According to Nyoro, Kenya must do everything within the law to review and, if necessary, nullify the transaction if investigations establish that due process was not followed and that taxpayers’ interests were compromised. He argues that any disposal of a public stake in a strategic company should be conducted through a transparent, competitive, and accountable process that delivers maximum value to the country.

Nyoro further maintains that Parliament and the relevant oversight agencies should thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the transaction and make their findings public. He says Kenyans deserve full disclosure on how the sale was conducted, the valuation used, and whether all procurement and investment regulations were followed.

He emphasized that safeguarding public assets is a constitutional obligation and urged the government to ensure that any transaction involving strategic investments meets the highest standards of integrity, fairness, and value for money.

The government and the relevant institutions have not publicly responded to these specific allegations. Any investigation or review would determine whether the claims have merit.
