By News Desk The National Parents Association (NPA) has called for an immediate investigation into the violent unrest reported at Nyambisase High School in Kisii County, where students allegedly attacked members of the teaching staff.
Speaking on behalf of the Association, National Chairman Silas David Obuhatsa said schools must remain safe spaces dedicated to learning and that violence against teachers, destruction of property, and any form of lawlessness within learning institutions are unacceptable.
“Schools are institutions of learning and must remain safe, secure and protected environments for learners, teachers and all education stakeholders. Any form of violence, destruction of property or attacks against teachers is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated,” said Obuhatsa.
The Association has urged the Government, through the Ministry of Education, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), and relevant security agencies, to urgently establish the facts surrounding the incident and recommend measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future. NPA also appealed to the National Police Service to conduct thorough and impartial investigations and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the full force of the law.
As an immediate precaution, the Association has recommended that the TSC temporarily redeploy teachers from the affected school until the security situation stabilizes and normal learning safely resumes.
At the same time, NPA reassured parents across the country that schools should continue operating normally and encouraged them to ensure all learners report to school as scheduled without fear.
On the planned public demonstrations, the Association reaffirmed its support for every Kenyan’s constitutional right to peaceful assembly and demonstration. However, it urged all participants to remain peaceful, act responsibly, and respect the rights, safety, and property of others.
NPA further called on the National Police Service to provide adequate security to all citizens exercising their constitutional rights peacefully while protecting lives and property throughout the demonstrations.
The Association expressed concern that criminal elements often infiltrate peaceful protests, leading to vandalism, violence, and destruction of public facilities, including schools. It therefore urged the Government to deploy sufficient security personnel to learning institutions nationwide to safeguard learners, teachers, and school property.
Additionally, NPA appealed to law enforcement agencies to ensure that school-going children are not exposed to danger during demonstrations. Parents were reminded of their responsibility to ensure learners remain in school during learning hours and are not involved in public protests.
The National Parents Association reaffirmed its commitment to promoting safe schools, quality education, and strong collaboration between parents, schools, and government institutions to safeguard the welfare and future of all learners.
