Mombasa County successfully hosted the Closing Gala Night of the 11th Our Ocean Conference 2026, marking the conclusion of three days of high-level global dialogue, partnership building, and commitments aimed at safeguarding the world’s oceans.
Speaking during the gala, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir said the coastal city was honored to host one of the world’s most significant ocean conservation gatherings, bringing together leaders, scientists, investors, development partners, private sector representatives, and civil society organizations from across the globe.
“As host city, Mombasa was proud to bring the curtains down on the historic 11th edition of the Our Ocean Conference 2026 with a vibrant Closing Gala Night celebrating three days of global dialogue, partnership and action for our oceans,” said Governor Nassir.
The governor noted that the conference reaffirmed the critical role of coastal cities in addressing the challenges facing marine ecosystems. He emphasized that coastal communities are not merely witnesses to environmental threats but are actively leading solutions through ocean conservation, climate resilience initiatives, sustainable blue economy investments, and marine innovation.
According to Governor Nassir, the commitments announced during the conference have strengthened global resolve to protect oceans and marine resources for future generations.
He expressed gratitude to President William Ruto for his leadership and support in bringing the landmark conference to Kenya and commended Cabinet Secretary Ali Hassan Joho for his stewardship in convening the event.
Governor Nassir also thanked the thousands of delegates, development partners, scientists, private sector leaders, and civil society actors whose participation enriched discussions and contributed to the success of the conference.
The successful hosting of the Our Ocean Conference 2026 further cements Mombasa’s position as a leading global hub for ocean conservation, sustainable development, and blue economy transformation.
