Incoming Makueni Women Representative aspirant Damaris Maweu joined a host of leaders, including Hon. Mwengi Mutuse, OGW, MP Kibwezi West, Principal Secretary for Aviation Teresia Mbaika, CBS, Hon. Fred Muteti, Hon. Kisoi Munyao, Hon. Regina Ndambuki, Dr. Andrew Mulwa, Members of County Assembly, opinion leaders, and residents, during a Women Economic Empowerment activity held at Kathyaka Market in Kikumbulyu North Ward, Makueni County.
The event brought together women from across the region with the aim of strengthening their economic capacity, enhancing financial inclusion, and supporting their participation in income-generating activities.
Speaking during the forum, Damaris Maweu emphasized the critical role women play in advancing household welfare, community development, and local economic growth. She noted that empowering women through entrepreneurship, access to financial opportunities, and skills development creates sustainable livelihoods and strengthens families and communities.
“Women are the backbone of our society and economy. When we invest in their empowerment, we invest in the prosperity of entire communities. Economic empowerment gives women the tools they need to create opportunities, improve livelihoods, and contribute meaningfully to development,” she said.
The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to supporting initiatives that promote women’s economic participation and self-reliance, noting that such programs are essential in reducing poverty and fostering inclusive growth.
The empowerment initiative aligns with the Kenya Kwanza Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), which prioritizes financial inclusion, enterprise development, and the empowerment of women, youth, and vulnerable groups.
