National Assembly Speaker and Ford Kenya Party leader Moses Wetang’ula has declared that his party will seek President William Ruto’s support when its turn comes to produce the country’s leadership, citing Ford Kenya’s unwavering backing of the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Speaking during a public event, Wetang’ula stated that Ford Kenya has stood firmly behind President Ruto and played a key role in securing his leadership for two terms. He said the party expects the same political goodwill and support in the future when it seeks to advance its own presidential ambitions.
“We will go to President Ruto and tell him that since we supported him and gave him two terms, he should also support us when our time comes,” Wetang’ula said.
The remarks are likely to ignite fresh debate over succession politics within the Kenya Kwanza coalition, with leaders already beginning to position themselves ahead of the post-Ruto political era.
Wetang’ula’s statement signals growing confidence within Ford Kenya and suggests that discussions about the coalition’s future leadership could become a major political conversation long before the 2027 General Election.
Political observers say the comments may be interpreted as an early indication that Ford Kenya intends to stake a claim for the presidency after President Ruto completes his constitutional term limit, potentially reshaping alliances within the ruling coalition.
The declaration comes amid increasing political activity across the country as parties and leaders strategize for the future while maintaining support for the current administration.
