Wiper Party Leader and opposition chief Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka today officially unveiled his 2027 Presidential Campaign Platform under the theme “Komboa Kenya”, declaring that the opposition is ready to offer Kenyans a new path of leadership, accountability, and economic transformation.
Speaking during the launch event in Nairobi City, Kalonzo stated that the opposition is prepared to rescue the country from the challenges facing ordinary citizens, including the high cost of living, unemployment, corruption, and what he described as failed governance.
“Our mission is to liberate Kenya and restore hope to millions of citizens who feel abandoned. The time has come for leadership that listens to the people and puts their interests first,” said Kalonzo.
However, the event was overshadowed by reports that a section of journalists and media practitioners were allegedly mistreated, manhandled, and chased away from the venue for attending without official invitations.
The incident has raised concerns among media stakeholders and press freedom advocates, who argue that journalists have a constitutional and legal right to access information and cover matters of public interest.
Media observers have urged political parties and event organizers to familiarize themselves with laws governing media operations and freedom of the press. They note that journalists play a critical role in informing the public and should not face intimidation, harassment, or discrimination while carrying out their duties.
The alleged mistreatment of reporters has sparked debate on the opposition’s commitment to democratic values, transparency, and respect for media freedom, with calls for all political actors to uphold the rights guaranteed under the Constitution of Kenya.
As the 2027 political season gains momentum, stakeholders continue to emphasize the importance of protecting journalists and ensuring open access to information during public political events.
