President William Ruto and First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto have called on Kenyans to embrace forgiveness, reconciliation, and national unity, saying the country must rise above political and ethnic divisions for the sake of a peaceful and prosperous future.
In a message to the nation, President Ruto said the country had taken “a moment to pause, reflect, and pray together as one people,” emphasizing the importance of healing and togetherness during challenging times.
The President noted that this year’s theme, Forgiveness and Reconciliation, serves as a reminder of the values that bind the nation together despite differing opinions and political affiliations.
“Before politics and ethnicity, we are first and foremost Kenyans,” President Ruto stated.
He observed that while differences are inevitable in a democratic society, they should never be allowed to fuel hatred, animosity, or division among citizens.
“In a robust democracy like ours, differences are bound to arise. But divergence of opinion must never degenerate into hatred, animosity and division,” he said.
The Head of State further urged Kenyans to choose peace and understanding, saying forgiveness is a sign of courage and strength rather than weakness.
“A prosperous nation is built when citizens dare to forgive and have the grace to reconcile. Forgiveness is not a weakness; it is, in fact, bravery,” he added.
President Ruto also described reconciliation as a commitment to a shared national destiny, insisting that unity remains key to Kenya’s progress and stability.
“Reconciliation is our resounding testament that our shared future matters more than our divisions,” he said.
Mama Rachel Ruto echoed the message of unity and prayer, calling on families, leaders, and communities to uphold love, compassion, and mutual respect as pillars for national cohesion.
The remarks come at a time when the country continues to experience heightened political debate and growing calls for national dialogue and peaceful coexistence.
