The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has launched a fierce political counterattack against former President following his recent criticism of President and the Kenya Kwanza administration.
In a strongly worded Letter to Former President, UDA leaders accused the former Head of State of leaving behind a struggling economy burdened by massive debt, stalled development projects, and what they termed as years of financial recklessness.
According to the ruling party, President Ruto inherited “an economic wreckage” that had pushed Kenya to the edge, forcing the current administration to undertake painful but necessary reforms to stabilize the country.
“Kenya was surviving on expensive loans and unsustainable borrowing. The economy was suffocating under debt and poor financial decisions,” UDA leaders stated.
The party further accused the previous administration of neglecting the agriculture sector, which they described as the backbone of Kenya’s economy.
“You destroyed the agriculture sector that feeds millions of Kenyans. Farmers suffered under your leadership, production dropped, and the cost of living skyrocketed. President Ruto has revived a sector you nearly killed,” the statement added.
UDA leaders defended the Kenya Kwanza government’s policies, arguing that reforms in agriculture, fertilizer subsidies, food production, and support for farmers are beginning to restore economic confidence across the country.
The sharp response now signals an escalating political confrontation between allies of former President Kenyatta and supporters of President Ruto, as debate over the country’s economic direction continues to dominate national politics.
The exchange is expected to intensify political tensions ahead of upcoming national political realignments, with both camps seeking to shape public opinion on who is responsible for Kenya’s economic challenges and recovery.
