Ksh8 Million Chopper Bill Sparks Outrage as MPs Demand Accountability

A storm is brewing in Parliament following revelations that Deputy President Kithure Kindiki allegedly spent Ksh8 million on helicopter hire in a single day, raising serious concerns over the use of public funds amid tough economic times.

The issue has now caught the attention of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), with Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo leading calls for transparency and accountability. Lawmakers are demanding a full explanation after uncovering a staggering Ksh150 million in helicopter-related expenses hidden within Ksh478 million in pending government debts.

Speaking on the matter, Amollo questioned the justification of such high expenditure at a time when Kenyans are grappling with the rising cost of living and increased taxation. He challenged the government to disclose who authorised the flights, the purpose of the trips, and whether due procurement procedures were followed.

“This is not just about numbers—it is about priorities,” lawmakers noted, warning that such spending sends the wrong message to citizens already burdened by economic hardship.

The revelations have intensified scrutiny on government expenditure, with MPs vowing to pursue the matter until full accountability is achieved. The PAC is expected to summon relevant officials to shed light on the controversial payments and establish whether public finance regulations were violated.

As pressure mounts, the unfolding scandal is likely to ignite broader debate on austerity, transparency, and responsible use of taxpayer money within the highest levels of government.
