UDA and ODM leaders, President William Ruto and Oburu Oginga, have endorsed the allocation of KSh 2 billion in the national government’s Supplementary Budget to compensate victims of political brutality, marking a long-awaited step toward justice for affected Kenyan families.

For communities along the Coast, where painful memories of past electoral periods remain vivid, this commitment brings renewed hope. The government has assured that the compensation process will be concluded by June, a timeline welcomed by families who have waited far too long for closure.

“We now urge the Kenya National Human Rights Commission to act swiftly, collaborate with all stakeholders, and ensure that no affected family is left behind,” said Oburu Oginga. “In the Coast region, there are still cases dating back to the 2017 electoral contest that deserve urgent attention and prioritization.”

ODM emphasized its commitment to pursuing and monitoring this process closely to ensure that justice is not only promised but fully delivered, restoring the dignity of the people affected by past political violence.
