Mutumishi Wa Watu incoming Nairobi Governor Cyprian Nyamwamu has launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto’s administration, claiming that 64 per cent of the problems currently facing Kenya can be directly linked to the President’s leadership.
Speaking during an interview in a local Radio station,Nyamwamu accused the government of lacking a clear agenda for the country and urged Kenyans to reject what he termed “Tutam and Wantam politics,” which he said offers slogans instead of solutions
“Kenya is being driven without a clear agenda. We are being fed slogans while the country sinks deeper into crisis,” Nyamwamu said.
He pointed to the education crisis in Nairobi as a clear example of government failure, noting that some schools have admitted between 850,000 and 900,000 students into Grade 10, yet lack basic facilities such as water and sanitation.
Nyamwamu further alleged that Nairobi has ‘ghost schools’—institutions that exist on paper but are unknown even to county authorities—raising serious concerns about planning, accountability, and misuse of public resources.
“When we expose these issues, some government officials label us negative. That is gaslighting Kenyans instead of fixing problems,” he said.
He also highlighted the economic hardship facing parents, saying many families can no longer afford basic necessities such as transport fare, school uniforms, or other education-related costs.
“Parents are struggling. Some cannot even afford fare to take their children to school, yet politicians defending this government live comfortably and dismiss genuine concerns as negativity,” Nyamwamu stated.
Nyamwamu called on the government to stop dismissing public outrage and instead confront the realities facing ordinary Kenyans, warning that continued denial would only deepen public anger and mistrust.
“The country is hurting. The government must stop gaslighting Kenyans and start taking responsibility,” he said.
