Wajir North MP Hopeful Sajo Promises Water, Jobs and Better Services Ahead of 2027

A UDA hopeful has secured the Gareen community’s backing to vie for the Wajir North parliamentary seat in 2027.

Wajir North parliamentary hopeful Abdullahi Sajo has outlined a commitment to tackle water scarcity, unemployment, women’s empowerment, global linkages, and the education sector if he wins the constituency seat in the 2027 General Election.

Sajo, who is associated with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), made the remarks after receiving an endorsement from the Gare community to enter the Wajir North race next year during a meeting held at a hotel in Nairobi.

He pledged to pursue the sinking of 45 boreholes within five years by collaborating with development partners, non-governmental organisations and the national government, with a plan to sink at least three boreholes per year in each of the constituency’s three sub-counties, which amounts to nine boreholes annually.

“That would translate to nine boreholes every year and a target of approximately 45 boreholes over a five-year term, subject to resources, feasibility and successful partnerships,” he said.

Sajo also committed to leveraging his professional and international networks to scout for employment opportunities for the youth in Gulf nations and Europe in partnership with credible employers and licensed recruitment agencies.

“My recent visit to Denmark strengthened my interest in building international partnerships that can open doors for qualified and skilled Kenyans,” he said.

He further promised to champion vocational training, entrepreneurship and skills development initiatives to enable young people to secure employment and set up local enterprises.

On economic empowerment for women, Sajo said he will encourage the formation of registered women groups and savings associations to enhance their access to business support, markets, capacity building and affordable credit through linkages with government programs and development partners.

He also undertook to push for well-equipped schools, enhanced learning infrastructure and support for needy learners, while engaging relevant stakeholders to address the shortage of teachers.

In addition, Sajo laid out plans to advocate for well-equipped health facilities, sufficient personnel, availability of essential drugs and strengthened maternal and child health services.

Regarding infrastructure and security, the aspirant said he will lobby for improved road networks connecting villages to market centres, expanded access to electricity and communication networks, and enhanced collaboration with relevant authorities to deal with insecurity.

He further emphasized the need for accountability in development programs through frequent community engagement and open reporting on prioritization, allocation of resources and implementation status.

“Our community deserves to understand which projects are prioritised, how public resources are allocated and what progress is being made,” he said.
