NPA WELCOMES DIGITAL BIRTH CERTIFICATES, SAYS MOVE COULD END PARENTS’ REGISTRATION WOES

Parents’ Association Urges Government to Ensure Every Child Gets Birth Documentation as Kenya Embraces Digital Public Services.
The National Parents Association (NPA) has welcomed the announcement by Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen on the introduction of digital birth registration services, describing the initiative as a potential game-changer in easing the challenges parents face when obtaining birth certificates for their children.
In a statement, the association said the move could significantly reduce the burden of long journeys to registration offices, transport expenses, lengthy procedures, repeated visits and delays that have frustrated many families across the country.
The NPA noted that birth certificates are essential documents for children, particularly during school registration, enrolment and examination-related processes. It warned that children should not be disadvantaged because their parents face difficulties accessing government registration services.
The association observed that families in rural areas, low-income households and communities with limited access to government offices have been particularly affected by the existing challenges.
DIGITAL SERVICES EXPECTED TO EASE PARENTS’ BURDEN
According to the NPA, digital birth registration offers an opportunity to simplify administrative procedures, reduce unnecessary expenses and bring essential government services closer to families.
The association said effective implementation of the initiative could benefit millions of parents and children by making birth registration more convenient and improving access to essential documentation.
However, the NPA emphasised that the government must ensure the new system is inclusive, particularly for parents who lack reliable internet connectivity, smartphones or the digital skills needed to navigate online services.
OBUHATSA CALLS ON PARENTS TO PREPARE
Speaking on behalf of the association, Mr Obuhatsa urged parents and guardians to cooperate with the government and relevant registration authorities in implementing the initiative and other programmes aimed at improving public service delivery.
He further encouraged parents to prepare the necessary information and supporting documents required for their children’s birth registration while remaining alert to official government announcements on when and how to access the new system.
The association also advised parents to seek guidance from the relevant government offices to ensure their children’s records are accurate and complete once the new arrangements become operational.
‘NO CHILD SHOULD BE LEFT BEHIND’
The NPA reiterated that every child deserves proper documentation and an opportunity to access education without unnecessary administrative obstacles.
It called for closer collaboration between parents, schools and government agencies to ensure that the digital transition delivers practical benefits to families across Kenya.
The association reaffirmed its support for initiatives that promote accessible, efficient and inclusive public services, urging the government to sustain cooperation with parents to ensure that every child can obtain the documentation needed to access essential services.
