Hon. Babu Owino today took his sports empowerment initiative to Eastleigh North and Airbase wards in Kamukunji Constituency, where he participated in the Nairobi Pool Table Tournament, bringing the spotlight to the role of sports in empowering young people and strengthening community ties.

The tournament provided a platform for local talent to shine, while encouraging healthy competition, interaction and the discovery of opportunities for young people through sports.

Speaking on the importance of such initiatives, Owino emphasized that sports play a vital role in bringing communities together, nurturing talent and creating opportunities for the youth.

“Through initiatives like these, we can empower young people, strengthen community bonds, and create platforms where talent can translate into meaningful opportunities,” he said.

The event also highlighted the potential of recreational sports such as pool to promote discipline, teamwork, confidence and positive engagement among young people.

As communities continue to explore ways of addressing youth unemployment and expanding opportunities for emerging talent, grassroots sporting activities can provide an important avenue for participation, networking and personal development.

Owino underscored the need for continued investment in sports, noting that empowering young people through talent development is an investment in the future of communities.

The Nairobi Pool Table Tournament in Kamukunji adds to the growing recognition of grassroots sports as a tool for youth empowerment, social cohesion and community development.
