NAIROBI, October 5, 2026 — Teachers have been celebrated as heroes and patriots whose contribution goes beyond the classroom to shaping the generation that will build Kenya’s future.
Speaking during the World Teachers’ Day 2026 celebrations at Kasarani Gymnasium, Nairobi, the government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening education and improving the welfare of teachers across the country.
The celebrations brought together thousands of teachers to recognise their dedication, professionalism and critical role in national development.
The government said investment in education has increased to KSh784.5 billion, making education the largest allocation in the national budget.
Particular emphasis has also been placed on teachers’ welfare, professional development and improved working conditions.
The teacher promotion budget has been doubled from KSh1 billion to KSh2 billion, with the number of promotions expected to rise from the 34,016 positions already advertised to 50,000 in what has been described as the largest teacher promotion exercise in a single year.
The celebrations highlighted the central role teachers play in shaping not only learners but also the professionals, leaders and citizens who contribute to Kenya’s social and economic development.
The World Teachers’ Day celebrations provided an opportunity to recognise teachers for their service while reaffirming the importance of continued investment in education and the teaching profession.
