By News Brief

NYERI, KENYA — Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has inspected the ongoing upgrade of Rùrìng’ù Stadium in Nyeri Town, a Sh900 million project aimed at transforming the facility to international standards.

The stadium is currently 70 per cent complete and is part of a wider national programme involving the construction and upgrading of 32 stadiums across Kenya. The facilities are intended to expand the country’s sports infrastructure and complement major venues in Nairobi, including Kasarani and Nyayo stadiums, as well as the Talanta Sports City.

Kindiki described the ongoing investment as the most ambitious sports infrastructure upgrade undertaken in the country since independence.

The Deputy President also inspected construction works at the Asian Quarters ESP Market in Nyeri, one of 13 such facilities at various stages of development across the county.

The Nyeri Modern Market, located nearby, is being constructed at a cost of Sh324 million and is expected to accommodate approximately 750 traders upon completion.

Meanwhile, the Field Marshall Muthoni ESP Market has been completed and is ready for handover. The facility is expected to provide trading space for about 300 traders.

The projects form part of broader government investments targeting sports, markets, livelihoods and public infrastructure across the country.

Kindiki was accompanied by Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga, Nyeri Town MP Dancun Mathenge, Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi, Kieni MP Njoroge Wainaina, Gender and Affirmative Action Principal Secretary Ann Wang’ombe, MCAs and other leaders.

The government says the investments are intended to expand economic opportunities, improve public facilities and strengthen infrastructure at the county and national levels.
