NAIROBI, KENYA — 23 SEPTEMBER 2026

Former Starehe MP and politician Bishop Margaret Wanjiru has reportedly joined Ndindi Nyoro’s People’s Party, in a fresh political development ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Wanjiru is expected to pursue the Nairobi gubernatorial seat, adding another major political name to the contest for control of Kenya’s capital.

The latest move marks a new chapter in Wanjiru’s political journey after she recently declared her intention to run for Nairobi Governor. Earlier this month, she had announced her gubernatorial bid under the Kenya Moja Movement (K1) ticket.

Her latest reported move to the People’s Party would therefore represent a significant change in her political vehicle ahead of the 2027 polls.

WANJIRU EYES CITY HALL

Wanjiru has previously outlined an agenda centred on improving service delivery, accountability and the management of Nairobi County.

Among the issues she has highlighted are waste management, water supply, healthcare, roads, sanitation and creating a business-friendly environment for Nairobi residents.

The former legislator has also described her Nairobi vision as “Nairobi Mpya”, focusing on a clean, organised and functional capital where residents can work and prosper.

A FRESH POLITICAL ALIGNMENT

The reported decision to join Nyoro’s People’s Party comes as political parties and leaders continue positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.

Wanjiru is a familiar figure in Nairobi politics, having served as Starehe MP from 2007 to 2013 and later as Assistant Minister for Housing. She has also previously contested major elective positions in Nairobi.

Her reported entry into the People’s Party could reshape the political alignments surrounding the Nairobi governor contest as parties seek candidates and alliances ahead of the polls.

THE NAIROBI RACE

The Nairobi governorship is expected to remain a major focus of political activity ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Wanjiru’s latest reported political move puts her campaign and the People’s Party’s Nairobi strategy in the spotlight as the city’s political contest continues to take shape.

LiveNation254 will continue to follow developments surrounding Margaret Wanjiru, Ndindi Nyoro’s People’s Party and the 2027 Nairobi gubernatorial race.
